Surgical Emergency Response Team (SERT) Activation
Field limb amputation is a very rare event and should be utilized as a last resort to free a patient only after all other options have been exhausted. The Surgical Emergency Response Team (SERT) provides rapid, coordinated surgical support to EMS who encounter a person who needs procedures that exceed their capabilities and who can not be extricated and transported in a reasonable amount of time from the scene to definitive care.
This guideline outlines the structure, activation process, and operational procedures for deploying the SERT to ensure timely surgical intervention, optimize resource utilization, and enhance patient outcomes. It serves as a framework to maintain readiness, promote interdepartmental coordination, and support an effective regional emergency response.
